Pauletta called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM. She noted that the meeting was scheduled for today at noon because Lead and Learn was rescheduled for our normal meeting time last night.
UNA Support – Pauletta shared an e-mail received from Cindy Stephens about a plan for supporting UNA financially since it will probably loose its funding. Upon motion passed, the following action will be taken: 1) Pauletta will get clarification on the funding proposal, 2) the issue will be presented at the Feb. 16 General Membership meeting, 3) Pauletta will contact Bob and ask him to come to the Feb. 16 General Membership meeting and review UNA’s activities on behalf of GBNA in the past and plans for the future, 4) a vote will be taken at the March General Membership meeting concerning the support. The Executive Committee will vote at their March meeting and make a recommendation to present to the General Membership meeting.
Executive Committee Business Member – Pauletta reported that Randy Carpenter from the Boys & Girls Clubs agreed to serve on the Executive Committee. Welcome Randy!
Special Olympics – Angela reported that the Polar Bear Plunge fund raiser will be this Sat., Feb. 14. The Hot Air Balloon Ride for 2 raffle will be Mar. 1. Rick’s Automotive is sponsoring this. Tickets are $10. There are only 200 tickets. The Torch Run t-shirts are available. Cutting Edge will give their proceeds for one day to Special Olympics. Red Robin Tip-A-cop event will be Apr. 18 from 12-8.
Spring Clean-Up – will be Saturday, April 18. Earth Day is Apr. 22. The decision was made to do the Tire Toss again. Jane to check on the availability of Central Assembly’s parking lot.
Karaoke – Decided that Karaoke in the Park will begin May 8.
Newsletter – Decided that the March newsletter will stand alone. There will be no April newsletter. Instead Fred to check on door hanger paper stock that can be printed. It would have information on the Spring Clean-up and other activities for the month. They would be delivered.
National Night Out – It will be in October this year. Pauletta to check on a date. Pauletta to contact Chief Rowe about police involvement again. Perhaps Angela could be the police presence since she has been involved in the event in the past.
Minutes – The minutes of the January 12 Executive Committee meeting were approved as presented.
Treasurer’s Report – Fred reported that this reconciled bank balance was $4916.99 as of Jan. 30.
Candidate Forum – Because UNA is funded by the City, expressions of discomfort with UNA’s sponsoring the City Council candidate forum were expressed. Mar. 31 is a School Board candidate forum at Weaver School. Mar. 31 is a candidate forum at Doling. Apr. 2 is the UNA candidate forum at St. Joseph’s School. The group felt more comfortable with several northwest Springfield neighborhoods’ sponsoring at forum. This would be promoted to those in the Grant Beach, Woodland Heights, Midtown, Doling, Tom Watkins, West Central, and any other NW Springfield neighborhood associations. Fred to talk to Tom Martz at Doling to get his feeling about this scope of candidate forum on Mar. 31 or Apr. 2. Jane to check on the availability of Central Assembly’s Fusion Center auditorium on Apr. 2 since Mar. 31 is not available. If this comes together, a letter will be send to all the neighborhoods inviting them and asking that it be put in their newsletters.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:30 PM.
